Taking your dog with you and the family when you go abroad is something we all wish for, But find it hard to make a reality, and most of us are unsure of the rules and regulations, or even know of any Airlines that allow dogs in the cabin.

Airlines That Allow Dogs In Cabin

1 British Airways

British Airways: Allow guide dogs in the cabin and other pets that weigh less than 6kg, They must be transported in a portable dog carrier or cage, with maximum dimensions of 20 x 30 x 20 cm. If they weigh more than 6kg your dog will need to travel in the cargo hold.

But there is some good news to this, British Airways have now partnered with a company called Pet Air UK which is run and owned by qualified veterinary surgeons and has been flying pets all over the world since 2004 that offer a comfortable and convenient way to export their pets from the UK.

2 Air France Flights

Air France Flights: Accept dogs and other pets in the cabin that are under 8kg of weight this includes the dog carrier, with maximum dimensions of 46 x 28 x 24 cm in size. Air France will recommend that you use a flexible bag for your own comfort.

All dogs must be over 10 weeks old to travel in the cabin and only one per passenger. Dogs weighing between 17-165 lbs and 8-75 kg can be transported in the cargo. if your dog exceeds this they must be transported by freight.

How much will it cost:

The price can be anything up to €200 depending on where your dog is travelling (cabin or carriage)

3 Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines: do Accept dogs that are under 8kg including the dog carrier with maximum dimensions of 23 x 30 x 40 cm to travel in the cabin, You can take two carriers on board per passenger but only one carrier allows in the cabin.

If your dog and carrier exceed the dimensions or weight limits above they will have to travel in the cargo hold. The cages must be of sufficient size, properly ventilated, and watertight.

How much will it cost:

The minimum fee is $70 again this will depend on where your dog will be travelling (cabin or carriage)

4 Air Canada

Air Canada: Accept dogs in the cabin that are under 22 lbs 10 kg including the dog carrier with the maximum dimensions of 21 x 38 x 43 cm. So this is slightly more than the two Airlines I’ve mentioned above and again you can travel with two dogs but only one carrier per passenger in the cabin.

If your dogs and carrier exceed the dimensions or weight limits they will have to travel in the cargo hold. Pet fees will apply!

You’ll need to arrive a full 30 minutes prior to the recommended check-in time.

How much will it cost:

It can cost anything up to $100 including taxes each way, this also depends on your destination.

5 American Airlines 

American Airlines: Accept dogs that do not exceed 9 kg including the dog carrier with the maximum dimensions of 48 x 33 x 22 cm again they can travel with you in the cabin.

But if your dog is traveling in cargo the dog carriers you use should have maximum dimensions of 101 x 68 x 76 cm and have room so they can move and turn around.

Your allowed two dogs per passenger but only one dog carrier in the cabin.

How much will it cost:

A carry-on pet can cost up to $125 per kennel Within and between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central America, Colombia, and the Caribbean.

6 Jet-Blue Airlines

Jet blue Airlines: do Accept small dogs in the cabin, depending on the destination that weighs no more than 20 pounds including the dog carrier, The maximum dimension’s are 17″L x 12.5″W x 8.5″H. Pets are not permitted on any flights that go to Jamaica, Barbados, St Lucia, the Cayman Islands, or Trinidad & Tobago.

7 Delta Airlines

Delta Airlines: will accept small dogs in the cabin, that are transported in a ventilated dog carrier and can fit under the seat directly in front of you. Your dog must be at least 10 weeks old for domestic travel. Dogs in-cabin kennels will count as your one carry-on item

The maximum dog carrier dimensions are determined by your flight. You must contact Delta Reservations to determine the appropriate size.

8 Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines: Accept small dogs to travel in the cabin but only if the combined weight of the pet and carrier does not exceed 20 lbs 9 kg maximum dimensions of carriers must not exceed 43 cm x 28 cm x 48

A passenger may travel with a maximum of two dog carriers in the main cabin, but only when the adjacent seat is purchased by the same passenger.

Frontier Airlines: Accept small dogs to travel in the cabin and must be transported in a portable dog carrier that’s large enough for the pet to stand, turn around and lie down in a natural position. The carrier must also fit underneath the seat in front of you.

The maximum dimensions for a pet container are 18″ length x 14″ width x 8″ height

A one-way directional charge of $99 will apply and may be paid in advance during booking.

Allegiant Airlines: Accept small dogs to travel in the cabin and must be transported in a portable dog carrier no larger than 9”H x 16”W x 19”D.

Passengers with pets must also check in with an Allegiant agent at the ticket counter or gate counter at least one hour prior to scheduled departure this is to ensure pets and pet carriers are compliant with the above guidelines.
